Anti Discrimination Board

What does the board do?

The board was established in NSW under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, with its role being the promotion of anti-discrimination and equal opportunity principles and policies. The board also does the following:

  • It handles complaints against both direct and indirect discrimination.

  • It tries to prevent discrimination from happening in the first place, it does this by educating people on the law of anti-discrimination and why the laws are important.

  • It advises the government on any changes that may need to occur to prevent discrimination.

Who can appear?

The board hears complaints from people who have been discriminated against either directly or indirectly. The law of NSW protects people from sex discrimination, pregnancy, race, age, marital or domestic status, homosexual discrimination, disability and many others.

The area of discrimination applies to employment, state education, goods and services, accommodation and registered clubs.

If you believe you have been discriminated against in any of the above areas please contact us because we can lodge and application on your behalf which starts the process.

Court Location

There are three offices within NSW, the Sydney office is located in Castlereagh Street, the Wollongong office is in Crown Street and the Newcastle office is in Hunter Street.
