Copyright Tribunal

 

What does this Tribunal do and who can appear?

 

The tribunal is an independent body and it hears the following matters regarding licensing:

 

  • Statutory Licences - these are licences regarding the production of certain copyright materials by educational institutions and institutions that assist person with certain disabilities.

 

  • Voluntary licences - however the tribunal cannot confirm, or vary a licence scheme or proposed licence scheme.

 

  • Generally the tribunal refer a question of law arising in proceedings before it for determination to the Federal Court of Australia. It may do so of its own motion or at the request of a party.

The registry of the Tribunal is located in Sydney only.
